Member of Parliament for Hexham, Guy Opperman, has visited Ponteland High School to speak with Year 10 pupils.
The MP was grilled by a panel of pupils at the school on how he represents constituents in the local area, as well as what his day-to-day job looks like in the House of Commons in Westminster.
As part of the visit, Mr Opperman met three aspiring Members of Parliament, including Rosie Bell and James Hickie, two Members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs) representing Northumberland.
The two MYPs recently travelled to London where they had the opportunity to speak from the iconic green benches in the House of Commons Chamber.
Mr Opperman also talked to local girl Isabella Samples about her passion for politics and her campaign to be Northumberland's next youth representative.
Commenting on the visit, Mr Opperman said:
'Ponteland High School continues to go from strength to strength since its recent £43 million rebuild and it's clear to see the difference the new facilities are making to the life chances of pupils at the school.
'The staff deserve high praise for investing so much time and hard work into the pupils, who are rightly proud to call Pont High their school.
'Rosie, James, and Isabella are all incredibly impressive and a real credit to the school. Their passion and desire to help their local community really shone through, and I have no doubt that if they put their minds to it, they each have a successful career in politics ahead of them.'
Headteacher, Stefan McElwee said:
'The students enjoyed an engaging discussion with Guy. They engaged in discussions on political issues affecting young people as well as hearing about Guy's own work experiences and routes into politics.
'We are grateful for opportunities for our young people to better understand issues around democracy and the rule of law; Guy's visit has certainly provided a great insight for our students into the economic and social issues affecting our local community.'
